ASUS CX3402 Windows 11 Driver Issue

Was able to get through the installation process for Windows 11, but seems like the Coolstar install guide for this system (MARASOV) either isn’t 100% correct or became outdated with some new driver releases.

Possibly the same/similar issue as here, but the OP isn’t responding:

Went through the install guide but the wifi driver indicated doesn’t actually enable the wifi functionality. Going into the Device Manager I see that there’s a Network Controller that exists in the Other Devices section, and nowhere in there is there an Intel WiFi adapter. I downloaded the IT Admin driver package, manually added that to device manager, uninstalled the Network Controller device then attempted to scan for new devices, but doesn’t seem to change anything.

Skipped ahead in the process a little and attempted to install the touchpad drivers. Those installed no problem, however it didn’t enable the touchpad to actually work at all. Display Driver installed no problem (Intel Iris Xe is what it’s labelled as now instead of simply Intel Xe, so that took a little digging), but can’t get these two components working.

I’m almost wondering if there was a problem with the Chrome EC/Cr50 install which stopped these from working. I’m going to go back and try re-installing those, restarting between each install to see if it helps at all. But if anyone else was able to get this working, please reply here and let me know!

Looks like I was able to figure this one out on my own. Here’s how I solved it:

  • Went to the discord and found that only a couple other people had issues with the wifi and touchpad drivers being problematic, but nothing like I had been seeing.
  • Decided to reinstall windows and start fresh. Followed the guide to a T and everything worked perfectly until the wifi drivers.
  • Looked at the device manager and saw the Network Controller was being recognized but not initialized. Looked at the event log and only saw two entries, however one of them was for ven_14c3&dev_7961&subsys_46801a3b, and googling this brought me to a MediaTek Wi-Fi 6 MT7921 adapter rather then an Intel one.
  • Used the Microsoft Update Catalog to grab the largest recent update for this adapter (October, 2024), these were .cab files, so I had to usb it to my chromebook and install it manually.
  • Restarted and the wifi came up normally. Connected to my local network and confirmed it was working OK.
  • Continued through the steps and did the autoinstaller which worked perfectly.
  • Continued to the next steps and installed the touchpad driver which allowed that to come online.

Anywho, there we go. Looks like it’s just an issue with some models of the ASUS CX3402 MARASOV where they have MediaTek wireless adapters instead of Intel ones.
