Yaviks - CR50 write-protect not disabled after battery disconnect

System Details

  • Device: yaviks (HP Chromebook 15.6" Plus)

  • OS: ChromeOS

  • Firmware Type: Stock

  • Firmware Version: Google_Yaviks_Ufs.15217.970.0

  • Internal storage type: UFS

Summary of the Issue Trying to install Linux (dual boot or full replacement). CR50 seems to block write-protect disable. Battery disconnect did not disable write-protect. Previously attempted dual boot which only resulted in a black screen on boot.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Enabled Developer Mode

  2. Disconnected battery, ran on AC power only

  3. Attempted to run MrChromebox firmware utility script

  4. Write-protect still active, script blocked

Expected Behavior Battery disconnect should have disabled hardware write-protect on CR50, allowing firmware flash via MrChromebox script.

Any help appreciated.

that is not the expected behavior at all. Why do you think it should? My site does not list battery disconnect as a WP disablement method for your device.

That’s because the device you’re using, YAVIKS, doesn’t disable write protection through disconnecting the battery. As stated by the MrChromebox Supported Devices page, your Chromebook can only disable write protection through a Suzy-Q cable.
