Wi-Fi not working on Debian Chromebook

(I’ve created this topic in place of this old one as the title of that one was a problem that has already been solved.)

Hello!

I’ve installed Debian 12.6.0 with the GNOME desktop on my HP Chromebook 14. However, I’m having issues with the Wi-Fi. It connects to the network I told it to in the Debian Net Installer, but I have no option of selecting a different one.

In settings, it tells me No Wi-Fi Adapter found.

And in the top bar, this icon is in place of the Wi-Fi icon you would normally see:

One thing I’ve tried to do is set the chromebook’s wireless card as managed (it used to be unmanaged according to iwconfig) You can see my previous guided attempts to do that in this topic, but, even though I was able to set it as managed, I still can’t switch Wi-Fi networks.

Here are my system’s specs:

Model: HP 14-db0044wm
Board name: CAREENA
Architecture: x86_64
CPU: AMD A4-9120C RADEON R4
CPU gen: Stoneyridge

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hey i’ve almost the same pc (chromebook Barla) and i have the same audio issues if u solve plese tell me beacouse it’s a lot of time i’m tryng to solve and i’m becoming crazy for it (sorryy my bad english) thankssss

What OS do you have installed?

Had the same thing happen on a Windows laptop I turned into a Debian server and again when I had factory reset my chrultrabook. It’s more to do w/ Debian than the chrultrabook IIRC. It’s been a minute so I can’t quite remember my solution, but vaguely remember deleting a traditional network manager file so that the more modern network manager file config would populate w/ info. Might want to run it by an LLM like Claude and then cross-reference online.

Alternatively, here are some solutions on the same issue re: fresh installs:

TBH, once the install and config is complete, outside of a few quirks chrutrabooks are basically just another Debian device. The Debian Forums are great for troubleshooting
