Wi-Fi Connection Issues; Can't Run Firmware Utility Script (Samsung Chromebook 3 CELES)

i’m in the stage of the linux installation process where i need to run the firmware utility script, but i can’t because my wi-fi won’t connect and the wi-fi menu is bugging out.

the wi-fi is now automatically off. the button to turn wi-fi on can be clicked once, but causes no change and cannot be turned back off. the add network feature doesn’t work (button unresponsive when clicked). when the wifi menu is exited, the wifi on/off switch goes back to being off. repeat cycle.

does anyone have any clue what’s happening here and how to fix it?

am i allowed to boost my own post :sob::sob:

sounds like you have a ChromeOS or hardware issue. Double check that the WiFi card is properly inserted.

is the wi-fi card that little chip that says “intel” and has the qr code-looking thing on it in the top left of the machine? if so, i’ve never touched that. if everything looks okay to you, i’ll go look around at the chromeos reddit page and see if i can find a solution there

yes, it is. While you didn’t touch it, you clearly disconnected the ribbon cable going from the mainboard to the daughterboard on which the wifi module resides, as I can see the ribbon cable is not fully/correctly inserted into the mainboard in your picture. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the cause of your issue. Remove and properly reinsert the cable before locking it into place.

makes sense, i was having a tough time with that cable when i initially put my computer back together. the reinsertion was easy this time around, though, and my wifi works again! thanks a bunch again for all your help 🩷
