Utilize 'Linux Announcements' more frequently

Randomly bounced around the install documentation for the first time in a while and stumbled across some pretty substantial updates:

Thanks to recent advancements in the chrultrabook community, Linux works really well on most Chromebooks. (Only Linux kernel 6.4 or newer is supported.)

This sounds pretty big and might be something that could have more detail on the forums for those interested. Some questions that come to mind:

  • Is this all Chromebooks or specifically Supported Devices
  • What were the change in the kernel

Old (>1 year) LTS releases may have issues and are not supported.
One possible workaround for Debian 12 (Bookworm) and Ubuntu is using a custom kernel. In case of Debian, the audio script will automatically install it for you. Note that not all issues can be solved with a custom kernel, as the rest of the software on the system is still old.

  • Debian went from one of 2-3 supported distros to (officially) unsupported. OTOH, there are a lot more distros that can be used than this time a year ago! Definitely interesting and worth an announcement or at least a sticky lol
  • Will Debian regain eligibility once Trixie is released or should existing Debian users jump to a newer custom kernel or migrate away

I can understand how it feels like the majority of people on the board want new install advice, but - while not a majority - a fraction of newbies will inevitably turn into chultrabook evangelists.

It might be a high-level convos at times, but I think the Announcement Section could be used to share things like:

  • Explaining the how recent changes to the linux kernel have positively impacted the chrultrabook project
  • Updates to documentation
  • Sharing existing/future chrultrabook talks available YouTube
  • Explaining commits that are game-changers or bring in new functionality
  • Announcing newly supported boards

Hopefully these things sound more like sharing interesting things w/ the class instead of homework, lol. Thanks again for all the work you all put in :metal:t5:
