USB Drive Not Showing up in boot menu after installing mrchromebox firmware

System Details

  • Device: APEL
  • OS: Trying to install Windows
  • Firmware Type: UEFI Full ROM
  • Internal storage type: eMMC

Summary of the Issue

So I successfully installed the firmware however when I insert my windows 10 install USB it doesnt show up in the boot menu and I’ve tried both the windows media creation tool and rufus using gpt mode with UEFI and its 64 but but it just wont show up in the boot menu.

if only there were a FAQ with things to try when this happens

Yeah I tried everything on there before I even posted this and it didn’t work. I tried 2 different USB sticks. I literally tried both the media creation tool and Rufus just like the FAQ and it didn’t work. I’m gonna go buy some more USB sticks and SD cards but if it still doesn’t work then what do I do?

doesn’t seem like you read the FAQ at all, because it is very clear that how you created the media has absolutely no bearing on whether the drive is detected or not in the boot menu.

the simplest thing to do is to unplug and reconnect the USB drive on the main menu, wait 3s, then go back into the boot menu.

I tried that and it didn’t work. I had also tried plugging it in on the shell page and then trying to go to the boot menu but that didn’t work either.

that’s very odd, without being able to reproduce it’s hard to say what the problem might be other than some handshaking issue between edk2 and the USB device
