I was following instructions to get the Chromebook into developer mode, which called for me to press the recovery key combination and then press ctrl-d. I pressed the key combination, got the recovery screen, pressed ctrl-d and nothing happened. Since that time, pressing the power button does nothing. The recovery key combination is the only way I can get the Chromebook to turn on, except one time when it started normally. On that occasion, I stupidly tried again to put it in developer mode in the exact same way, with the same results.
Things I’ve tried:
Inserting a few different recovery USB sticks I’d made on my desktop into the Chromebook when the recovery screen comes on. This did nothing.
Disconnecting and reconnecting the internal keyboard ribbon cable. No change.
Disconnecting the internal keyboard and connecting an external USB keyboard to see if ctrl-d did anything different when pressed on an external keyboard. Nothing changed.
Disconnecting and reconnecting the SSD, which requires first disconnecting and later reconnecting the ribbon cable between the motherboard and a daughterboard that is to the right of the motherboard when looking in from the bottom of the Chromebook.
Steps to Reproduce
- See above. If I try to turn it on with the power button, nothing happens. If I wake it up with the recovery key combination, ctrl-d does nothing and I’m stuck on the recovery screen.
Expected Behavior
When I was on the recovery screen and pressed ctrl-d, I should have been prompted to confirm that I wanted to put it into developer mode.
