Stuck On Bunny Screen On First Boot Up

System Details

  • Device: HP Chromebook 14 (Falco)
  • OS: ?
  • Firmware Type: UEFI Full ROM
  • Firmware Version: ?
  • Internal storage: SATA

Summary of the Issue

It was my first boot after following MrChromebox steps to get Linux on my chromebook and judging from other people’s experiences i’d thought it boot up in under a second but it didn’t. I stayed stuck on the bunny screen and I’m able to access the boot settings but i’m not sure what to do there. Every time I reboot I could either sit on the bunny screen or access the boot settings using the esc key.

Do you think an OS magically installs itself?

if you have a FALCO device with the original SATA drive and it’s still working, I’d replace it sooner than later as boot hangs are a sign of failure.

but as mentioned, you have to install an OS after flashing the firmware. The script told you this, but you probably just hit Y to continue without reading.

So i’m just fucked basically?

not sure how you got there from “you need to install an OS, like the script told you”

How do I do that i’m stuck on a boot menu, do I need a USB?

SMH, really? we have documentation for a reason.

what exactly were you expecting to happen after flashing the firmware?

Yes, you need a USB stick and a working computer (yours of a friends) to write the image to the USB stick
