Struggling with Crostini on Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 3 – Need Help Installing Xubuntu for Light Gaming (Beginner Guide)

Hey everyone,
I’ve got a Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 3 CB 11IGL05 with basic specs (looking for something lightweight for gaming). I’ve been trying to install Xubuntu or another lightweight Linux distro to replace ChromeOS for casual gaming and general use, but I’ve had a rough time with Crostini (Linux on ChromeOS).

Device Specs:

  • Processor: Intel Celeron N4020
  • Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 600
  • Storage: 64GB eMMC
  • RAM: 4GB DDR4

Why I’m Avoiding Crostini:
I’ve already tried using Crostini, but I encountered several problems that led me to give up on it. Issues like broken functionality, performance lag, and eventually having to reset my system made it more trouble than it was worth. I’m looking for a cleaner solution, and I want to install Xubuntu (or a similar distro) directly without relying on ChromeOS or Crostini.

Here’s what I need:

  1. A step-by-step guide to installing Xubuntu or another lightweight Linux distro directly (no Crostini).
  2. Any tips for using MrChromebox or making BIOS changes to support the install.
  3. Advice on getting sound, Wi-Fi, and display drivers working correctly.
  4. Common pitfalls to avoid during installation.

I know my specs aren’t ideal for high-end gaming, but I want to try and get the most out of them for light gaming. Any advice or resources would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

The docs is where u can get started: https://docs.chrultrabook.com/.
I would recommend installing Fedora XFCE instead of Xubuntu if you want XFCE because you may not get help for issues on Ubuntu.
