I disabled my hardware write protection by removing the battery of the Chromebook (Lenovo 300e 2nd Gen). But when I run flashrom in bash (provided by shimmer), it says that “SPI is not supported by this hardware”. What does this mean?
we don’t support shimmer here
Well to be fair I’m only using it for VT-2. I could just as easily recreate this with crosh and the shell command if I could boot into ChromeOS at all (explained in my previous post). Either way this issue still stands.
no, you’re running a copy of flashrom from a hacked RMA shim, so who knows if it’s legit. I’ve never seen that error so have to assume it has something to do with the image you are running.
I have no idea what your previous post is/was or what you’re trying to do, and expecting others to track that down simply isn’t reasonable
my previous post was explaining that the chromebook refused to boot chromeos after disconnecting the battery, only recovery and the shim. however no one ever responded so it got buried.
I still don’t know what you’re trying to do
What do you mean by that?
what you’re trying to do / why you’re trying to disable WP.
You said previously that your device won’t boot ChromeOS, only recovery mode. This isn’t going to help that, so what the heck are you trying to do?
I am trying to disable WP so that I can do things like unenrollment and uefi firmware.
And ChromeOS refuses to boot when the battery is disconnected and running off the AC adapter, when hardware WP is enabled. So now you see my issue
fix ChromeOS not booting and disable hardware write protection properly for your device. Don’t mess with shimmer or other shit you don’t need or understand.
If you can’t get ChromeOS to boot, there’s no point in doing anything else.
That’s the issue, in all this time back and forth over 3 days not a single person has responded to my original post. I’d get that now as it is buried, but you responded to this post immediately so why did no one do that for the other one? I can’t fix something that I don’t know how to fix.
because I’m one person with limited time and can’t read/reply to every single post?
Often when I have a CB that won’t boot with just battery, a 65w charger will fix the issue (many are 45w).
Other than that, you can externally flash UEFI if you have a programmer
