Something Went Wrong: 0x5d Kernel secure NVRAM (TPM) initialization error

System Details

  • Device: dedede
  • OS: ChromeOS Recovery
  • Firmware Type: UEFI Full ROM to Stock
  • Internal storage type: eMMC

Summary of the Issue

Previously, I had installed windows and linux on my HP Chromebook 11 G9 EE. I decided to revert to chromeOS for reasons. I followed to guide on the official Chrultrabook Docs. I used my old backup and I hit the dreaded Something went wrong screen. I thought this was normal because I didn’t have chromeOS installed anyways. Followed the on-screen instructions. Hit the Successfully completed screen. Tried multiple times but always returned to Something Went Wrong. Also, when I press ctrl+d on the recovery screen, it says that I am already in Developer Mode(if that helps). Tried restarting multiple times. Tried following the hard reset instructions. Pressed esc+refresh+power multiple times, refresh power, etc.. Nothing worked. I do not own a SuzyQable is there any way to fix this??

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Use Full UEFI Rom using mrchromebox script.

  2. Follow chrultrabook docs instructions to go back to stock firmware using backup.

  3. Get this error again and again.

Expected Behavior

I should have reverted to chromeOS(I think?)

this will require a SuzyQ to resolve

I have another question. If you can, can you please tell me what the problem is? I am fine with technical terms. I am just curious. Thanks

literally what the error says - the TPM NVRAM is corrupted.
