Samsung Chromebook 3 (Celes) Write Protect Screw Access

i’ve been following

[Disable write-protect on Samsung Chromebook 3 (CELES) XE500C13-K02US] ← this tutorial

to access the wp screw and i’ve been able to undo all the screws, but i have zero experience with internal computer hardware and have no clue how to undo the sections shown in the green boxes

there’s only one video tutorial that i could find showing this process (youtube video by some biblical channel, it’s like an hour long), but the person in the video doesn’t explain exactly what they’re doing and it’s hard to tell from the kinda low-quality recording. if someone could explain to me how to complete the process to remove the motherboard, i think i’d be all set to transition to linux

left green box: using a small plastic trim tool, starting from the left side (as hinge is on the right), carefully rotate the dark brown locking tab 90* upwards to release, then remove the ribbon cable

top green box: locate the metal “handle” running along the bottom of the connector, lift and rotate upwards to unlock, then pull cable away from connector

i meant my left, i’m sorry, i like just woke up :sob::sob: i was able to get that handle up pretty easily, i’m talking about the part that kinda looks like a conveyor belt!!

great, thank you again!! <3

okay i got the parts in the two green boxes detached, but there’s still a couple more sections that seem to be preventing me from complete detachment >_<

and when i try to get a closer look at what could be preventing me from lifting the board out, it just starts beeping at me :((

well, the first thing you ought to have done was disconnect the battery from the mainboard before anything else

oh! i didn’t realize that i could unscrew that (nor did i read the text on it that said it was a battery :sob::sob::sob:). i was able to get 3/4 screws undone on it, but one of them is reallyyyyy stuck in there U_U but from the screws i was able to get undone, that does seem to be the key to loosening the motherboard enough to access the wp screw

the battery has nothing to to with WP and everything to do with removing power before you start removing screws and disconnecting cable which have power running them potentially

oh! i guess i assumed the battery was powered off when i turned the system off… either way, i got the battery disconnected and the wp screw out :relieved: now i just have to find a way to get all the extra screw gunk out w/o damaging the system and i should hopefully be done with this mess
