I bought and installed Redrix audio (went surprisingly smoothly, actually). It works. There’s no missing driver or errors in device manager. Headphone output works. Automatic headphone/speaker selection works. It survives after sleeping and waking up. Speakers wo-
Redrix has 4 speakers, and 4 MAX98390 amplifiers. All four of them show up as installed and working in Device Manager. However, only the two bottom speakers seem to do anything. The two top ones, above the keyboard, seem silent.
Windows settings show only two speakers. Testing the left one makes only the bottom right speak, testing the right one only makes the bottom left speak. Yes, they’re also reversed.
I couldn’t find 4 channels anywhere in Windows settings, so I suppose they’re supposed to be mixed to stereo by the driver (which would thus use the 4 amplifier outputs as two stereo outputs). But it’s not what I’m hearing. In fact, if I disable the amplifiers 98390/2 and 98390/3 in Device Manager, it continues to sound exactly the same as when they’re enabled. If I disable 98390/0 or 98390/1, the according channel goes missing entirely.
SOF 1.0.4.0 (as received from Coolstar portal) is installed.
SofMaxxAudio says “not supported”, which is expected for this device, as it’s not listed as supported.
I couldn’t find any relevant information in the Discord other than the 1.0.4 changelog saying “Better support for Taniks and Redrix (proper mapping of 2 → 4 channels)” and “If you have Taniks or Redrix, you’ll be getting better speaker support”, so I suppose this should’ve been already fixed?
Yet it’s still missing top speakers (close to keyboard) and the back speakers are reversed left/right after a clean install of OS / Intel Drivers / Coolstar drivers and pretty much nothing else. Event Viewer doesn’t seem to have anything related to audio that I could notice.
What am I missing?
