Question about Linux availability

Hey I was wondering about the availability of Linux on my Chromebook, it is a banjo motherboard Chromebook. I wanted Linux to download apps on my Chromebook. I have read that you would need to get the write protection screws out, which I did. But I’m sort of second guessing if my version is even viable for it, I just need some confirmation. It is a banjo (cb3-531) Chromebook. Thanks for reading

Take a look here:

If it lists your device name - yes, it is supported (and it lists your board’s name and your model). You will need to run MrChromebox.tech’s script from devconsole (CTRL+ALT+F2 (Right Arrow)) and carefully follow the steps.

Hello, I looked on the site and it seems I have to go into recovery mode and enable dev mode. However even with the write protector off it won’t go into recovery mode. Now I think it could be because of three reasons. Those are that the escape + refresh keys aren’t working, the write protector area still has conductive electricity due to a lot of solder, or that I’m doing it wrong. I also took of the battery too. (Even put inductive tape on the wp.) Thanks for the advice and link. However if you can still give me advice that would be appreciated.

You do not need to disable WP to enter recovery/dev mode. Put your Chromebook back together (battery should be connected at this point) and press ESC + REFRESH + POWER to enter recovery. Test all the keys individually if you’re not sure if they work or not. If the CB just keeps rebooting, try holding the keys down for a few seconds before letting go.

Once in recovery, press CTRL + D, then enter at the next screen. Once Dev mode is enabled, press CTRL + D to enter Dev mode
