Problems unlocking BIOS on HP Chromebook x360 (white)

I am trying to use the Mr. Chromebox scripts to update my BIOS so I can boot up my USB boot drive. First I opened up the back and could not find the screw to unlock BIOS.

Next I installed the Chromebook linux, ran the terminal, executed sudo bash, then ran the firmware command. I got some verbose stuff from it but in the end it reported it could not unlock the bios.

My chrombook IS an x-386/x64 CPU so it is valid for Mr. Chromebox.

Any suggestions would be welcome. I want to get the latest build of Linux Mint installed.

  1. find your board name (my site tells you how)

  2. find the WP type for your board in the list on my site

  3. read instructions for flashing, you can’t do it from the virtualized Linux container (penguin)

  4. provide board name when asking for help

Sorry, my board is SNAPPY.

In your table it says I need to use CR50 (which I expected) but it said to disable the battery. Well when I had everything apart it would not boot up without the battery!! I’m beginning to think this is a blind alley

some boards won’t boot without the battery connected, some just need a specific power supply. If yours won’t boot without the battery, then you need to use a SuzyQ cable.
