I begrudgingly installed Windows 11 due to the fact that Capcut won’t run flawlessly under Arch and that I needed it for work.
Whenever I try watching videos on websites, it will freeze unless I mute the audio or switch it to headphones. Setting it back to speakers will freeze them as if they’re paused. It affects not just videos played on browsers, it also affects videos played in apps like VLC and MPV. It also affects my editing as I’m having a hard time doing playback whenever this happens, but I can’t just edit on mute.
Installed/Reinstalled Coolstar’s SOF drivers, installed Waves MaxxAudio as well, and the only thing that I haven’t done yet is to reinstall Windows which is something that I’d prefer not to do at this point.
If somebody was able to fix this issue, please let me know what you did and I’d like to give it a try before I ultimately decide to reinstall Windows.
UPDATE: I reinstalled Windows and the same issue is still occurring, until I decided to uninstall MaxxAudio drivers. After that, things are now back to normal.
Short version of what’s happening: with the Waves firmware, every time the last thing playing audio stops, the DSP is left in a broken state. Three seconds later it powers down for power saving, which quietly fixes the state. So if nothing starts playing in those three seconds you never notice. But if something does, it gets the broken state and just silently never plays. WHich is why it feels random.
The bug can be reproduced consistently by opening the volume flyout, and double clicking the volume bar.
I’m not sure if this affects Primus only, or more models with MaxxAudio. Replying here in case it helps someone who has the same issue and lands here by searching.
Hi! Thank you for this reply. I know it’s been a while as I have since been transitioned to CachyOS to be able to continuously use this device without anything breaking, but any explanation is very much appreciated.
I’m eventually planning to try out Windows with this once more as most of my work use-cases are unable to be fulfilled by CachyOS. Running Photoshop and Capcut bogs down this device due to Wine not being very friendly with these apps that much, so this reply is very much on-time.
Making this device mostly working with Windows is the end-goal of mine, after all, and your thread explains why things are happening as they are. Again, I can’t be more thankful for this discovery.
