Need help with a persistent firmware write-protect issue on my ASUS Chromebook CX1405CKA (NARSUIKI)

Hello,

I’m trying to install a full UEFI firmware from MrChromebox to dual-boot Arch Linux on my Chromebook, but I’ve hit a roadblock and need some help.

Here’s what I’ve done:

I successfully put the Chromebook into Developer Mode.

I opened the device and physically disconnected the internal battery.

I ran the MrChromebox firmware utility script from the developer shell.

This is where the problem starts:

The script successfully ran and gave me the main menu, but it shows FW WP: Enabled and freezes whenever I try to select an option (like Install/Update UEFI). I’ve tried restarting the script multiple times and confirmed the battery is disconnected.

My device information:

Model: ASUS Chromebook CX1405CKA (awasuki)

Board Name (from the script): NARSUIKI (ai say’s this i have been using gemini for all of this )

Problem: The firmware write-protect is enabled, and the script is not responding.

I’m looking for guidance on how to disable the write-protect on this specific NARSUIKI board, as the standard battery disconnect method does not seem to be working.

quit the script, and pastebin /tmp/mrchromebox_diag.txt so I can add support.

I’m not sure why you’d try to do anything using the script when it says
ERROR: unknown or unidentifiable device

That alone should tell you that trying to flash anything would be a bad idea.

It’s my first time doing anything like this

So I can not flash anything on my device?

your device is not currently supported, so no. I’m telling you how to provide me the information I need to add support for it.

Here you go thanks for the help

as you can see, your device is now supported

not sure where you got NARSUIKI from, that board doesn’t exist

I think it’s just gemini hallucinating

This is why using AI for anything firmware-related is absolutely insane, especially when authoritative sources exist.

Like I said it’s my first time doing this ai seemed like a baby proof way to do it

why? It’s a fancy autocomplete that has no inherent knowledge. The documentation here and on my site are written by actual people who understand things.

I didn’t know that it is that easy I’ll read the docs that was really helpful thankyou so much
