Okay so basically, i downloaded Minecraft on my Chromebook a few months ago and at first it worked, poorly (since it is a chromebook after all), but still worked.
Now whenever i try to open it it just doesn’t. I tried litteraly everything ( re-installing it, re-installing the linux developer, downdloading a diffrent launcher) but it just doesn’t work.
Please help me
There is a severe lack of details here
Are you trying to play Minecraft Java Edition or Bedrock Edition? If you’re playing Java Edition, which launcher are you using? Where did you get it from? Exactly how did you install it? Which distribution are you using? Do you have a Java Runtime Environment installed? Have you changed anything else on your system in the interim? Have you tried launching the Minecraft launcher from a terminal? If so, did it produce any potentially interesting messages?
There are a variety of things that could cause some old package on your system to stop working unless it’s recompiled against the new system libraries, but it’s impossible to have any idea what’s going on when literally the only thing I know is that it allegedly doesn’t work.
The problem is that the launcher isnt opening, i downloaded it from the official Minecraft site ( the one that i used is the debian file), i didnt change anything on my sistem, i did try to launch it from the terminal but the only thing that pops up is “cheking for updates” and then it closes.
This is what pops up and then after a second it closes.
I tried waiting for something to happen but nothing happens
I asked ten questions and you only answered two of them.
Are you trying to play Minecraft Java Edition or Bedrock Edition?=
Java and Bedrock
If you’re playing Java Edition, which launcher are you using? =
The official one
Where did you get it from?=
The official Minecraft website
Exactly how did you install it?=
From the official link, debian
Which distribution are you using?=
Linux, debian
Do you have a Java Runtime Environment installed?=
I don’t know what that is and when it worked I did non have it
Have you changed anything else on your system in the interim? =
No I didn’t
Have you tried launching the Minecraft launcher from a terminal? =
Yes I did
If so, did it produce any potentially interesting messages?=
I literally sent an image of what it says
I answered all of your questions in the previous message, In a way that represented a sentence and not a list of responses (like this message)
The only question I didn’t answer was the Java or Bedrock one but I thought I wouldn’t matter since the launcher is not opening not the game. (I mean yes the game isn’t opening but because the launcher isn’t, so it doesn’t take a genius to put the pieces together)
Also you asked 8 questions not 10
Try using Prism Launcher.
But the download doesn’t have the debian file, so I can’t install it
Are you running Minecraft from the Linux Container on the system, or have you gone through the process of removing ChromeOS and replacing it with a Linux install?
I asked exactly 9 questions and miscounted because I was in a hurry when I replied again, stop being pedantic.
Instructions for installing Prism Launcher on Debian are available at Prism Launcher - Download Prism Launcher for Linux
… That being said, the flatpak and AppImage versions should also work fine.
This was the tenth question that I forgot to ask.
Those are two completely different games. I know how to get them both working but you need to understand the difference before we go there.
FYI, only Java Edition is officially supported on Linux. The official launcher only runs Bedrock Edition if you are on Windows 10/11 and it’s already installed from the Microsoft Store.
You most probably need to reinstall the Debian package for the Minecraft launcher, but as others have suggested, I would also highly recommend using Prism Launcher instead. It’s way faster and more powerful, and it includes a fantastic all in one mod manager.
Are you sure about that?
That is NOT a terminal window.
You really didn’t, and even these answers don’t entirely make sense.
It matters a lot because Bedrock Edition is a completely different game that requires a different procedure to get running.
