I’m running the latest version of Linux Mint 22 Zara and I’m having some frustrating issues.
First problem is audio. After the install there was no sound at all. I managed to get it working temporarily after tweaking a few things, but as soon as I restarted the laptop the sound disappeared again. Now it’s back to no audio output. Whatever fix I apply does not survive a reboot.
On top of that, my USB thumb drive port is not working at all. It does not detect any drives whatsoever. I’ve tried multiple USB sticks that I know work and nothing shows up.
Has anyone run into both of these issues on Mint 22 Zara? I’m starting to wonder if it’s a driver or kernel issue.

Hahaha no I definitely did not run the required audio setup script from the Chrultrabook docs.
I kind of did the classic move where I thought “it’ll probably just work” and then started poking around manually instead. Clearly that strategy is not winning right now

Audio setup finished! Reboot to complete setup.

I ran the script and this is what I got, I have read through several forums that Linux Mint does not do well with Chromebox to Linux. I will be erasing my current OS and trying out Unbutu, hopefully that works.
Yes, I immediately rebooted and went to YouTube and tried a random video to see if it worked. It did not! Im just going to download Unbunto, I have read that works better with Mrchormebox
nothing to do with working better with my firmware. Mint just doesn’t work well on ChromeOS devices, due to stuff it does differently for no good reason
With that being said, which OS tends to work best with your firmware? I’d be more than happy to try whatever you recommend.
If there are specific distros that generally play nicest with ChromeOS devices and your firmware setup, I’m all ears. I really appreciate the work you’ve put into this and just want to run something that’s known to be solid on this hardware
