I have an HP Chromebook 14A (LANTIS board) and whenever I press Ctrl+L to get to the GRUB menu and select my USB, If I boot FydeOS flash drive it shows a backlit screen, but if I try Manjaro Linux it says: error: file /boot/vmlinuz not found. I have not tried any other OS/Linux distro. If possible I do not want to flash full UEFI firmware as I am not very comfortable modifying hardware, but I will if I need to. Thanks.
you don’t boot from grub (that’s an unusable ChromiumOS remnant), you boot from edk2. Press ESC when you see the coreboot logo (rabbit) to bring up the boot options.
Thanks for the help, but this time it just goes back to the Developer Mode screen when I select my USB.
what does that mean?
then it failed to boot the USB for some reason / it caused a reboot. How did you create your install media?
I used BalenaEtcher to flash it, with a FydeOS .bin file and Rufus for a Manjaro Linux .iso file
that should be fine. using same USB for both? try another?
I used different ones for each
- I dont have another USB or MicroSD card avalible
try booting Ubuntu 25.04, that should work without issue. Make sure you are selecting the USB from the UEFI boot menu, not grub
Okay, I will try this tonight when I get home. Thanks for the help, I will reach out to you if I need further assistance.
Great news! I just got it working, although there is one small issue. Is it possible to get my backlit keyboard working?
that’s an OS issue, not a firmware issue
