I've accidentally stripped the WP screw. Is there other ways to disable WP?

Board name : Kefka
Model : Dell Chromebook 11 (3180)

  • removed the stripped screw with an extractor
  • desolder pin #3 of the SPI flash chip and lift it off the board
  • flash the chip directly using a USB programmer and chip clip

option number 2 doesn’t work and the firmware utility script says Fw WP : Enabled.

probably gonna get a screw extractor.

you sure you lifted the pin for the BIOS chip and not the EC flash chip?

can also connect pin 3 (!WP) to pin 8 (Vcc) if leaving it floating doesn’t work

yes im certain ive lifted pin 3. ive checked the bios chip’s datasheets.

but ill try bridge pin 3 to pin 8

EDIT : had to do this tommorow cuz its late at my time

I didn’t say are you certain it’s the correct pin, but the correct chip. Your board has two SOIC-8 flash chips, one for the EC and the other for the main system firmware (BIOS) - you will need to disable WP on both

oh shit. my fault. Ive read it wrong. Also, i actually didn’t desolder. I “might” actually ripped it and the pin is too short to solder to pin 8. It was a Winbond 24x40clsig.

Im so so sorry for wasting your time :frowning:

that’s the EC firmware chip
