This site has a very detailed process on how to get the device ready for installing Linux. Check that your device is supported, disable firmware write-protect (which may involve disassembling your computer), enable developer mode, and run the firmware utility script. If you’ve done everything correctly you’ll have essentially a normal low-end laptop (albeit one with a limited and usually not upgradable amount of storage and RAM). You’ll need to then find a Linux distro (I recommend WattOS for older devices and either Debian 13 with XFCE or Mint with XFCE for newer ones) and flash it to a USB stick with Etcher or Rufus, then boot the laptop from that stick and run through the install process.
