I'm trying to install Xubuntu on a Toshiba CB-30B

following this guide:

But when I get to :
. Install firmware to boot from USB (RM_Legacy with write-protect ON)

cd; curl -LO https://mrchromebox.tech/firmware-util.sh && sudo bash firmware-util.sh
Press ctrl, alt and t to load the terminal
Type shell and press enter
Click the touchpad with two fingers to paste and press enter
Type 1 and press enter

… I receive an error message that this method is no longer supported

Alternatives ways ?

thanks

This chomebook is EOL (end of life) which means it is no longer updated by chromeOS. You cannot use rw_legacy because of that.

Skip to “3. Install firmware to boot from USB (Full ROM with write-protect disabled)” but before that you will need to disable write protect on your chromebook by removing a screw and running the script. Google “SWANKY chromebook write protect screw” there are many pictures that show which screw it is.

Ok, I’ll try that

thank you

Hi again,

now if I copy and paste the very same command it returns this error,

That guide is outdated, use this: Flashing Custom Firmware | Chrultrabook Docs
Press ctrl + alt + f2 (right arrow) instead of what’s in the old guide. If it asks you for login type ‘chronos’.
Should work assuming you’ve enabled developer mode and booting chromeos with the screw removed.

you have to type ‘shell’ first (and press enter) before the script command

Hi, I managed to install Xubuntu using the Swanky guide, the choices to make in the menus are a bit different and you have to complete the Xubuntu installation once it boots in a sort of “safe mode” from the pendrive, anyhow I’ve succeded.

Thanks to everyone
