Hp Chromebook 14 FALCO not able to flash UEFI ROM

Hi all,

I’ve been trying to switch over from the outtdated ChromeOS on my HP Chromebook 14 from 2013, so I can give it to my son with a fresh Linux install to be his first computer.
I removed the WP screw, I followed all the steps from all the forums, from Mr.Chromebox and used the flashutil to flash the full UEFI ROM. Everything went absolutely well as it is described it should. However, after I selected to reboot…. the laptop just starts its fan, the light next to the charging cable flashes white but the screen never comes on. I waited more than 15 minutes then I tried to hard reset it… still nothing.
In the end I concluded that it is bricked so I acquired a ch341 device and with the help from the troubleshooting guide from Mr.Chromebox I was able to flash the full UEFI Rom again and verify that it is good. Initially I had some problems with some parts of the memory on the chip which btw is a Winbond W25Q64FVSIG but in the end, after erasing it, I was able to flash it and verify the contents matched the ones of the rom image.

When I first flashed it with flashutil, I did save the original image so I was then able to extract the HWID and the VPD which I then injected into the rom as per the details.
So, everything seems to be working fine with that BUT the laptop still stays with a dark screen.
Any thoughts? Anything else I could try? IS the Winbond chip broken? Do I need to get a new one?

I’m really open to any thoughts!

Thanks,

Cris
