HP 14 G4 - KIP - Unable to access Machine

I want to get EndeavourOS running on this, but it’s proving to be a challenge. A few years ago, I went through the MrChromeBox guide and managed to get GalliumOS running on it, but after a few days it just kept going to the Chrome is missing or damaged page, and wouldnt let me log in. I gave up after a few days and shelved it, but the machine is still in great condition, I’d love if there was a way to get it working again, and get Endeavour on it (or any lightweight linux distro tbh)

I never did anything with the WP Screw, when I got Gallium working the first time it all just worked. Not sure why it stopped working.

I’ve tried creating a recovery disk, and just getting ChromeOS back on it, but when I plug in the USB stick nothing happens. The USB stick works, I used to use it or movies and such (8GB, smaller, older stick). Ive put a mouse in all my chromebook ports and the mouse always lights up, so I assume the ports are working. After creating the recovery media, windows doesnt really recognize the usb anymore, nothing happens when I plug it in (it does make the windows sound though).

Not really sure whats going on but I was hoping someone more experienced could help me out!

if you’re booted to recovery mode and nothing happens when you insert the USB stick, try another port or another USB stick. nothing you can do to “make” it recognized if it’s not.

If I get another USB stick and try all 3 ports and it still doesnt work, does that mean the machine is as good as dead?

Also is it normal for the usb not to show in windows when i plug it in after its become recovery media? I think the filesystem is totally different, i remember it showing up as a bunch of different usb drives in the past when I tried look at it on windows

it means if you want to flash it, then you’ll need to use a USB programmer to do so – effectively treating the device as if it were bricked
