How do I stop my Ultrabook from shutting down when I disconnect the monitor?

System Details

  • Device: BLIPPER
  • OS: Debian 13 (Trixie)
  • Firmware Type: RW_LEGACY
  • Firmware Version: Google_Blipper.13606.449.0 (04/08/2022)
  • Internal storage type: eMMC

Summary of the Issue

I have removed the display ribbon cable from my laptop because the screen was broken anyway and I couldn’t get developer mode options to show up on my external monitor any other way. However, now if I disconnect the external monitor, the ultrabook completely shuts down and refuses to start back up until I plug the monitor back in.

Is this a firmware issue or an OS configuration issue? Do I need UEFI ROM to fix this problem? I tried that first but for some reason the hardware write protection stayed on, despite bridging the cables and disconnecting the battery.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Turn on the computer with the HDMI cable plugged in.

  2. Remove it

  3. Bazinga

Expected Behavior

The computer should stay on
