Due to my Chromebook not being able to recieve anymore ChromeOS updates, I’ve replaced ChromeOS with Debian 13. Everything is working fine except for the audio (and possibly the mic, but I’m not sure how to test that) I’ve never used Debian before, let alone linux in general, so as you can imagine I’m not well versed in how to fix this issue. I’ve done some research on how to fix this, but the results centered different devices and/or different linux distros. Any help? All advice would be grealty appreciated! (Model: Hp Chromebook 11 g5 ee)
Hi friends, it seems we have the same problem and I am also looking for a way to solve it. I have tried various variants of Linux distros or other OSes besides Linux but the biggest problem with the audio driver remains the same. I have received a little information that our hardware audio driver is not 100% loaded because the Linux source does not have an audio driver for our hardware model, the source from the factory (Google) is closed for this hardware model. I heard rumors that “GalliumOS” is the only OS designed specifically for Chromebooks, you can try it. I have tried booting from the FULL UEFI Firmware but only got a “boot loop”
this is not correct information. GalliumOS is dead since 2019. We have extensive documentation here and an audio setup script to resolve most audio issues. reading the docs is the way to go
Thank you, sir. I mean, GalliumOS is the only compatible OS, specifically designed for Chromebooks, but the project has been closed and cannot boot on Full UEFI firmware due to lack of updates. Thank you for your work. Your project is very helpful for those of us who want to switch to Linux. I really appreciate you.
