Having issues with Zorin os 18 on my Acer Chromebook 11

I recently installed Zorin os 18 on my chromebook and it hasn’t been the experience I expected. It feels a bit sluggish and has performance hiccups.

But the worst thing is an annoyingly loud beep that happens when I watch Youtube videos.

I’m not sure what to do. This is my first time trying to daily drive a Linux distro btw. I had high hopes for Zorin 18. Especially since they claimed that it would be better optimized which is why they’re discontinuing Zorin lite.

Specs:

Ubuntu 24.04 will work just fine

Kde neon is a more Windows like option

I encountered this issue on my Acer Chromebook 11 CB3-131 (gnawty) running on Antix/Debian 13.5 (trixie).

Adding options snd_sof sof_debug=1 to any conf file under modprobe.d got rid of the persistent beep bug for me.

This seems to be a problem with the SOF driver. [BUG][BYT][CHT] Linux 5.11 Cherrytrail/rt5640 emits persistent beeping sound after a short while · Issue #3868 · thesofproject/sof · GitHub
