Firmware boot menu not keeping USB as default boot drive

I have the Samsung 4 (Bluebird) and set up a persistent USB flash drive with the current Ubuntu (ubuntu-24.04.2-desktop-amd64). I ran the Mrchromebox script for RW_Legacy.

The menu appears after I press ctrl L, ‘any number’, and esc. However, when I go to the firmware menu and arranged the USB to be the default drive, press F10 to save and exit, then the settings are not kept as USB default.

Any idea what could be causing this issue? Thanks to Mrchromebox for providing this useful firmware upgrade .

when used for RWL, edk2 can’t read/write to NVRAM (because stock coreboot doesn’t support it), so no way to save changes to the boot order. I should probably strip that out / disable it from the RWL builds to avoid confusion

Would there be any way to change the menu to where it presents the option to select the boot device from the main menu instead of from a sub-menu? Say for instance, when you hit ‘esc’, it would show chrome os, usb drive? Thanks.

no, that’s not possible
