Encrypted drive whilst installing arch linux "file not found" error

so i was switching from manjaro to arch linux and i was following a manual install tutorial i encrypted my main storage and then i got to the part where i install a desktop environment. i didnt have enough space in my root folder to install any desktop environment whilst keeping all the other required programs to actually boot arch linux.

so then I went back to restart the install process and then when i went to go format the drives they were recognized whilst using lstblk but when i went to go actually format the drive using fdisk it returned a file not found error.

i went back since i was unable to format the drives and decided to just skip the desktop manager installation since i had no space (very stupid, but i thought that if it was a problem, finishing the installation then reinstalling would probably fix it) and then when it came time to boot. I forgot my encrypted drive’s password. which i need to get past the boot screen.

after this i just reinstalled manjaro figuring that installing manjaro would format the drives for me and i wouldnt have to worry about it. but manjaro gave me an error message that it couldnt install. and so I ripped out the usb i had manjaro on. and now my chromebook is stuck waiting to die of battery loss because both the power button and manjaro os will not respond.

question is how do i format these drives using a terminal? additional question how much space should i use for the root drive

additional information - I am a first time linux user using an chromebook 14G boardname: SNAPPY
