I haven’t updated firmware for a long time, but my linux system works very well. Do I need to update the firmware to the latest version?

If there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the bios nor the operating system, then – I don’t recommend it but – you can leave the firmware as is. I highly recommend you update the firmware, though its your choice.
