Looking for a Chromebox (Acer Chromebox CXI4) to reflash & install Linux. I have found a cheap machine on ebay thats says it’s “MDM locked (management locked).” Will reflashing the firmware and replacing ChromeOS with Linux remove the MDM lock?
yes, but you have to treat the device as bricked and flash manually using an external USB programmer. You cannot flash via the script or SuzyQ unless they somehow left Developer Mode enabled, which is not normal for MDM locked devices.

In the end I chickened out of using a USB programmer and paid an extra £70 for an unlocked refurbished Acer Chromebox CXI4 from https://www.backmarket.co.uk. I see Debian is lagging now. I’ll try something else this time
