Crota360 Side Volume Buttons

Hello, I have the Dell Latitude 5430 Chromebook 2-in-1 (brya, crota360) running mrchromebox full UEFI firmware version 2509.3, Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024.

Obviously the side power button works, but my side volume buttons do not seem to work in both tablet mode or clamshell mode. I can verify the side volume buttons were working in chrome OS on the stock google firmware before the full UEFI rom flash.

Does the mrchromebox firmware support volume buttons in Windows? How can I get my side volume buttons working?

this isn’t a firmware issue, it’s an OS/driver one

Alright, my bad. In that case, would you know of any drivers that could allow me to use my side volume buttons?

Press Left Ctrl + Volume Keys

the short answer is that the side volume buttons use the same keyboard scancodes as the home row ones, so like the home row buttons, they require left-CTRL to be pressed to activate the non-F-key function. Not sure if this is configurable via coolstar’s driver or not

Not configurable, only with Microsoft PowerToys utility or similar app.

Doesn’t seem to work, regardless of left control being held or not. I also tried using PowerToys like @Taz recommended, though that didn’t work either as it seems the system doesn’t recognize the side volume buttons whatsoever.

I can verify the ribbon cable is connected to the zif connector properly and firmly, the tab is locked and on the black line on the cable, and works as intended on chrome OS.

I’m out of ideas then. The firmware just exposes the volume buttons to the OS, it’s up to the OS/drivers to map them properly.

@coolstar Hi, does the cros ec driver expose the side volume buttons to the host OS at all or just the keyboard vol up/down?
