Cooling help: Acer CXI2 CPU temp got up to 108C running Batocera Linux

I cleaned the old thermal paste off with rubbing alcohol and applied Arctic Silver Céramique after I removed the write protection screw / before I reassembled it. Yet the CPU temp shows 70C right after boot, and testing with a Gamecube game for ~3ish minutes spiked the temperature to 108C (game ran smooth though). There of course isn’t fan control in MrChromebox’s Coreboot, and I don’t see it in Batocera either. Any thoughts on what to do?

TIA

running the latest 2509.4 firmware? there were some updates to the fan control but nothing that would cause this. And 108C is well above the critical temperature at which the processor would shut down

Thanks MrChromebox for your answer, and all your work. I was not running the latest firmware, and just updated it now. Batocera is now reporting 106C after updating firmware, rebooting, and going through the menus.

install lm-sensors package and then report what the sensors command shows. There’s a Linux bug for reading the PCH temp on Haswell/Broadwell which would appear to be what is happening here
