Considering giving up

Dear Fellows,

It’s been many weeks now I’m trying to get Linux installed on my Acer Chromebook 315 3h (BLORB).

After solving the many issues along the journey, I was able to try 2 distros Live but I could not complete the installation:

Linux Mint 22.1
At the very end I got “unable to install GRUB”

Zorin OS 17.3 lite
many issues in the Live, sometimes I could at least browse but in general by every input: trying running an app, using shortcut keys, even to poweroff! I was getting:
“error with the Input/Output”

So now after one month I’m thinking about another solution but first I want to know some experts thought about my bad experience.

Please

Have you tried installing Debian or Fedora? A friend of mine had that when they were in high school and Fedora ran fine.

That said, they did NOT install the RW_Legacy firmware and instead installed full UEFI. Which method did you use when Chrultrabooking it?

I forgot to mention: I’m dual booting with the RW-legacy firmware, tough I’m considering to try the full UEFI as a last chance

RWL doesn’t work great, never has and probably never will. It should only be used if you have a really, really good reason to dual boot with ChromeOS.

UPDATE: I’m trying the FULL ROM way.

Once again, I’m unlucky: the Chromebook doesn’t work at all while the battery is disconnected (from the mainboard).

The only sign of life:
When connecting the ac charger the warning light gives an error sign (5 blinks and then off).
The screen similarly blinks as if trying to start but I guess it doesn’t get enough power.

I just wonder how I can remove the Write Protection else.
Should I first remove the RW Legacy Firmware? How?

I would say a Suzy-Qable, but I can’t find one my self.

EDIT: I found one on eBay:
Suzy-Q cable
