Chromebook not detecting battery after reinserting

I have an HP Chromebook x360 14a-ca0130wm (blooguard). I wanted to experiment with MrChromebox firmware, so I needed to take out the battery to disable write protect. I changed GBB flags and reconnected the battery, but the Chromebook doesn’t detect it. The battery light is blinking white, and I know the battery works because after power on, if I unplug the charger, it still stays on. chrome://power shows -1 percent power and discharge rate is 0. Crosh battery_test says “Failed to open /dev/cros_ec: Permission denied (13).” Battery_firmware info says “EC result 3 (INVALID_PARAM) Battery version 0 is not supported.” I’ve also tried powerwash and many hard resets to no avail. Is there any way to fix it? Or is it just a case of HP design quality?

Maybe try running Linux and try seeing battery info and use ectool battery.

I would, but now the device doesn’t even turn on.

I’ve been able to get the Chromebook to turn on, installed full UEFI firmware and installed Debian 12. I used ectool battery and it said the same thing as the battery firmware command above.
