I’m trying to disable WP on my chromebook. I’ve seen online (mrchromebox) that my model should be able to deactivate that protection by simply going in DEV mode and detaching the battery. But it didn’t work. i’ve tried many things here are some:
- sudo flashrom --wp-disable
- sudo gsctool -a -o
I really don’t know what i’m doing wrong so i’m asking for help, thanks
If you don’t understand what you are doing, then running random commands (one of which the instructions on my site explicitly tells you not to run) isn’t going to help
The docs say that make/model is irrelevant, and that everything is done by ChromeOS board name. you have no provided that, so no further help can be offered
I’ve followed the procedure listed on the site, disconnecting the battery (i have a GALITH mobo) and entering developer mode i launched the script suing the chronos user but WP was still on. Maybe is a rookie mistake
there is some discrepancy on the GAL* JSL devices, I suspect they need CR50 or a jumper like other JSL boards, although some people have reported success with battery disconnect
I’ve inspected the board and i don’t find any obvious indicator for the jumpers in question. The chip should be CR50, if it helps i can make the chromebook print out the exact chip name
I don’t have any more info than what is listed on my site. The easy answer is to disable WP via CCD using a SuzyQ
I understand, thank you for your time
If you know is there a way to shrink the chrome OS down and making a linux distro the default OS?
we have documentation for that, yes
