Can't get an OS running on Acer Spin 511

I used the MrChromebox script in my Chromebook’s developer console and went for the UEFI option since there is no need for me to ever boot into ChromeOS anymore. Thing is, when I power on my Chromebook, the following error appears:

Booting from ‘Internal eMMC’ failed: Not Found
Verify it contains/points to a valid 64-bit UEFI OS.

If I try to boot a OS from a USB this happens (at least that’s what I think I am trying to do when I choose this option):

Booting from ‘USB: PNY Transformer’ failed: Not Found
Verify it contains/points to a valid 64-bit UEFI OS.

I am new to this and getting to this point took me hours, so please be patient with me. If I am not giving enough information just ask for it, I really want this machine to work. The shell is available if that may help.

how did you write your ISO to USB?

Thanks for the reply!

I did it with Rufus, I wrote an ubuntu ISO.

I am now reading online that what I’ve got running in my machine is coreboot and that this software needs a payload to actually boot an OS. Could that be correct?

no. the firmware you are running (mine) is coreboot + edk2, which is a UEFI payload. Your device has everything it needs, other than an installed OS.

Using Rufus, you need to write the ISO in DD mode (aka image mode), not ISO mode.

Ok I understand now. Thanks for the clarification.

I’ve tried with a USB written in DD mode too but still no success. Can I somehow use the shell inside coreboot to troubleshoot my issue?

there’s no reason that a Ubuntu ISO written to USB in ISO mode shouldn’t boot, unless you somehow downloaded the ARM version or something. What is the ISO filename?

The name is:

ubuntu-24.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso

and you’re manually selecting the USB from the boot menu?

Yep. ‘USB: PNY Transformer’ option form the boot menu.

how about manually booting from file?

I don’t really know what that means, sorry. Could you explain it to me?

I’m currently trying to get it done with Fedora distro. How knows, maybe changing the written OS will do it.

This worked for some weird reason I ignore. Thanks for the support though
