Cannot enter recovery mode

I have a dell Chromebook 13-7310. My power button seems to be non-functional. When i press it there is no reaction and the keyboard doesn’t light up like it does when i press other keys. I’ve looked online for external Chromebook layout keyboards but i can’t find any. If you know any other way i can enter recovery mode or someway to troubleshoot the key please let me know.

what are you trying to do that requires recovery mode?

You can always just remove the SSD (it’s removable on the 7310) and it will boot there automatically

when i remove the ssd it says chromeos is missing or damaged. are you saying i dont need to enter recovery mode at all?

that is recovery mode

IN ORDER TO DO WHAT?

I want to get the UEFI full rom on it.

  • flash using an external/USB programmer

or

  • boot to recovery without SSD
  • switch to dev mode via CTRL+D
  • reinstall SSD
  • use script to flash firmware

Ctrl+D doesnt do anything

then you’re left with external flashing I guess - not much can be done to work around a broken keyboard. external ones don’t work for entering recovery mode (by design)

whats the procedure for doing the external flashing?

read the docs

i might need to get a different Chromebook because now i’m having more keyboard issues. Any model you would recommend?

I recommend not buying a Chromebook if you don’t want to use ChromeOS
