Can’t recover chromeOS + questions about Linux on Lenovo 300e 2nd gen MTK

System Details

  • Device: Lenovo 300e 2nd gen/
  • OS: ChromeOS
  • Firmware Type: Stock
  • Firmware Version: Unknown/NA
  • Internal storage type: EMMC

Summary of the Issue

I just scooped up a Lenovo 300e 2nd gen (the arm mediatek version) for 10$. The only catch is that it’s sort of broken. The listing says that whenever the previous owner tried to reinstall chromeOS the device would crash.

If I can fix that I would like to install Linux on the Chromebook; im aware it’s different from x86 chromebooks. I was wondering if anyone knew if it’s possibly to completely erase the chromeos on the internal emmc and replace it with PostmarketOS; or can I only boot it off USB?

Kind of a two question post but feel free to leave ideas about either. Thanks!

The only way I know of to install other operating systems on ARM chromebooks is submarine

Interesting from what I read you can just install any OS thats built to work with depthcharge. That in theory encapsulates most of the arm inages intended to run with x arm chromebook. Cool none the less though I’m going to use it.
