Asus c302 - CAVE.
Hi guys, so I’ve
Run the FULL firmware script.
Created the backup of ChromeOS firmware just in case.
Created a bootable USB in for Ubuntu.
Booted the live USB successfully.
Installed Ubuntu successfully.
Remove USB and restart (per on-screeen instructions).
But upon reboot (without the USB inserted now), I can’t get anything to boot. I know the Ubuntu installer wasn’t just twiddling thumbs for 30 minutes so it has to be installed. So how to I boot now?
Also, with the USB removed my boot options are Ubuntu, Internal eMMC, Linux Boot Manager, and UEFI Shell - and they all return the same error message.
Any help is appreciated, and thanks in advance
I must have the plague. Alright, tell me how stupid I am and please help me fix this. I just want a computer with a version of chrome that is up-to-date, or Firefox instead - help me get there.
I really don’t care what distro or any of it, I just want a working machine. Arch EndeavourOS worked great, audio right out of the box. No scripts needed here on Skylake (CAVE), YouTube was playing audio right from the first boot. It just worked, but only on the live USB. PopOs looked great, but no audio and the screen was upside down. Still, when the USB is unplugged, the installed OS won’t boot no matter what
I know this has to be a simple boot/bootloader issue. Someone has to know something that can help. Please, friends
I’d manually wipe the drive / partition layout before installing, something weird is going on as that isn’t normal behavior and points to something wrong with the ESP
Hey man, thanks for all of your hard work, and for the response.
Okay, so wipe the c302’s drive. Would that process be any different than choosing the ‘erase all’ option during the Ubuntu installer?
Alright so, boot issue seems to be related to my microSD card (which i forgot was even inserted). The installer from the live USB did not give me an option to choose a target where the OS should be installed so it must have been installed there instead of the internal memory. Once I realized this I
Removed the microSD - success
Rebooted with the live USB -success
Run Ubuntu installer all over again - success
Choose erase all - success
Holy moly Ubuntu booted on its own - success
So my assumption is…
The microSD is where the OS was installed by default without me choosing that, and then upon reboot the microSD isn’t recognized as a boot device. Thus the issue…maybe? Who knows what the issue is, I don’t really care, the device is booting and I want to keep it that way.
I tried running WeirdTreeThing 's script. I installed Python (or updated it if it was already installed, who knows), installed git, but I can’t get past the ‘type this in all caps’ message to move forward. No matter what I type I get ‘Try again’.
If I can’t resolve this I’ll happily run back to EndeavourOS where audio works out of the box, or PopOS if someone has a fix for the audio and upside-down screen (I guess this only happens on two in one devices like this - at least from what I can see upon further research). Please let me know if you need anything from me to help troubleshoot, and thank you again for all help
