BIOS does not display on screen

System Details

  • Device: acer cb3-431
  • OS: GalliumOS
  • Firmware Type: full ROM
  • Firmware Version: [As reported by the script]
  • Internal storage type: emmc

Summary of the Issue

Bios splash screen does not show, impossible to select alternative boot drive

Pressing escape during boot interrupts boot as though in bios but bios does not display on the screen

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Boot up machine

Expected Behavior

Rabbit splash should appear on screen and when pressing escape bios options should appear on screen

  1. why are you running a dead OS that hasn’t been updated in 7+ years?

  2. are you running the latest firmware on the device? sudo dmidecode -t 0 will tell you the version/date, as I’m guessing you can’t run the script from GalliumOS due to it being outdated

Because when I was just starting down this road all of the articles referenced gallium as the go to chromebook OS for hardware compatibility and working out of the box. It was only after installing it I realized it was no longer maintained. Literally why I am trying to get to BIOS to install a different OS

Output of that commant:

SMBIOS 3.0.0 present.

there’s no reason that firmware version shouldn’t show the splash screen on that device. Can you try connecting an external display?

also try a hard reset (refresh+power) with the device powered off.

Refresh and power didn’t seem to do anything but external monitor did the trick. thanks!

be sure to update to the latest firmware when you can
