I have been using various linux distros on acer chromebook plus 514 - craasneto - with the wonderful full firmware by mr chromebox.tech . i have been getting random battery critical error on all the linux distros I tried - for few seconds battery shows empty, then battery returns to correct percentage, I have turned off the shutdown on battery critical option , else the chromebook shuts down at the battery critical message.
Currently I am mostly using pop os and mint linux , in pop os once I get the battery critical error there is a continous warning sound till chromebook is shutdown. I have a doubt whether this is related to the no battery displayed acpi issue in windows disussed in this thread - here
@mrchromebox - kindly look into this battery critical issue when you have time. Thanks a ton for all the great work.
On craasneto it randomly happened in various distros - popos, mint, fedora , cachy os, manjaro . Dont know whether its an issue with my particular device. on other distros turning off shut down when battery critical helps. But on pop os the warning sound remains even after warning disappears. shall try to get some logs when it happens again.
Right now while using pop os the battery critical error popped up again. as you can see from the screeshot battery is at 34 percentage. The warning sound remains till i reboot. not finding any related messages in dmesg, any other place to look for logs? @MrChromebox
Little bit of an old thread, but I just found it because I was/am having the same issue.
I don’t have a fix, but through sheer happenstance I happened to discover that (at least with me), it was being triggered by ANY wireless device connected to the Chromebook. In my case, when my wireless mouse reached critical, it would trigger the laptop to shut down immediately.
Hope this helps others maybe finding the right path for a solution.
Thanks a ton mrchromebox for the firmware update.
now windows 11 shows battery correctly and random battery critical issue is almost gone.
(got battery critical issue once on pop os after firmware update, must be a pop os issue.)
@adderbox76 I do have a wireless mouse connected, but found the earlier battery critical warning to be random and not related to accessory or device battery percentage.
@MrChromebox Have been using arch linux since few days with the new firmware. can confirm the battery critical error is still randomly popping up . It is not as common as pop os, but it is still happening in arch. Just letting you know. Thanks for all the great work.
