Audio problem: C738T running PopOs

Acer CYAN type chromebook with coreboot, PopOs 22.04.
Speaker volume is too low, microphone not working.

A bit of background, I’m providing 80 converted Chromebooks to a grant which will distribute them to under served community members here in northern Wisconsin. I’m committed to Ubuntu because that’s what I know how to support.

I installed PopOs hoping that, as a supported distro, I can get some help, and apply what I learn to improve the Ubuntu situation.

Here are the results of running setup-audio:
pre-script:

low max speaker volume
no microphone, either on the settings-> sound page or from a mic test which runs arecord to a tmp file, then aplay on the file

post-script and reboot:

max speaker volume the same, maybe slightly louder
mictest script plays a recording, barely audible

The script runs very quickly and reports:

root@pop-os:~/chromebook-linux-audio# ./setup-audio

Increasing alsa headroom (fixes instability)
Audio installed successfully! Reboot to finish setup.

Is there anything else I can do to get more volume?

Thanks,
Kent
