Audio over HDMI not working with CN65

System Details

  • Device: Teemo
  • OS: Windows 11 Pro
  • Firmware Type: UEFI Full
  • Firmware Version: Unknown
  • Internal storage type: NVMe

Summary of the Issue

I flashed the full UEFI firmware to my ASUS Chromebox 3. For a specific reason, I installed Windows 11 Pro.

However, as it is in Linux with the CN65, HDMI audio output doesn’t work out-of-the-box.

Looking in device manager, the only audio device is Multimedia Audio Device under Other devices.

It warns that the drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28) and that there are no compatible drivers for this device.

When I have installed Linux on this CB before, I was able to fix the audio using the chromebook-linux-audio script. However, I can’t find one for Windows, or anyone with this problem finding a solution.

All the optional drivers from windows update are installed.

I also tried manually reinstalling the display drivers using gfx_win_101.2141.exe from Intel, however this didn’t help.

I also wasn’t able to find any Intel SST drivers, or individual driver packages for Intel High Defenition Audio

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install Windows 11

  2. Connect HDMI port to a monitor

  3. Observe no available audio devices

I guess because almost everyone seems to use a Linux distro on Chromeboxes instead of Windows - and probably even fewer using this specific model - there aren’t any documented cases of this issue with solutions that I have found.

tons of people using Windows on the CN65. HDMI audio works fine with drivers installed via Snappy Driver installer origin - you only need coolstar’s drivers for the headphone jack. here’s a small driver pack I put together for the CN65:

they install to Program Files and you’ll likely need to install manually via Device Manager and point at the installed folder

That seems to have fixed it, thanks!
