Asus Chromebox 3 stuck at "OS verification off" after updating RW_LEGACY & setting

Following instructions from Firmware Utility Script | MrChromebox.tech I ;

  • disabled firmware from being read-only by removing the screw
  • enabled developer mode

In Developer mode, I downloaded and ran the utilty script, in which:

  • I installed/updated RW_LEGACY
  • Set boot option to fast boot with default to non-standards boot device

My model:

Asus Chromebox 3 (CN65) TEEMO

Now my device is stuck at “OS verification is off“ and does not respond to keyboard input (or I haven’t found the magic key combo).

– correction, for a short period in the screen, the keyboard actually accomplished changing the display language, before it freezes.

The mrchromebox website referred me to this forum, am I at the correct location for these kind of issues here?

My goal is to run a Talos OS on this device to make it part of a Kubernetes cluster.

Issue appeared to be fastboot to the non-default (non-existing default boot device).

When pressing ctrl-L quickly upon boot, itbooted into the legacy (Chrome OS) boot device, allowing me to go into the developer cli, and revert to the default boot setting (long timeout, default ChromeOs).

This is no issue for me anymore.
