Asus Chromebox 2 (CN62) won't install ChromeOS

Hello, i tried to install chromeos on a chromebox that says that the installation is damaged on boot. With a usb drive, it tells me an unexpected error occurred right after it finishes verifying. I tried multiple usb drives, different SSDs, moving the ram sticks around, unplugging and plugging the wifi module, to no avail. I tried to install older versions of chromeos, one of them briefly flashes something (that looks like the next step of the configuration menu), but glitches and gives me the same error.

Solving this first would be preferable, but if I can’t, can i go straight to unlocking full rom on this? Without having chromeos installed…

there’s zero reason to install stock ChromeOS on a device this far EOL. Just use a $10 ch341a programmer to flash the chip directly and then install Flex or whatever OS you want.

But if you insist, there are logs on the recovery USB which will tell you why it’s failing. Should be on the ~10mb partition and accessible via another device running Linux

the only reason i wanted to install chromeos was to follow the tutorial to install another os. if i can use a standard bios chip programmer to do it, that’s fantastic, ill buy it asap

since you mentioned that, can you redirect me to the part of your guide that covers using that? what bios to flash etc.

excuse me, is one of those enough to follow that?

yep

hello mr chromebox, my ch341a arrived and i tried reflashing the bios chip with it and ran into some trouble

it identifies the chip as “spdf capable chip” instead of showing the model, and anything i try to do results in an overflow, timeout or “programmer not initialized” error, transferring no more than 4 bits. it also says the output pins are disabled. what could he wrong here?
