Asus C302 FW Utility Script WP Issue

System Details

  • Device: ASUS Chromebook Flip C302 CAVE
  • OS: ChromeOS
  • Firmware Type: Stock, attempting UEFI Full ROM
  • Firmware Version: Google_Cave.7820.384.0
  • Internal storage type: eMMC

Summary of the Issue

I have disabled the WP by removing the screw on the board, and the FW script is even reporting the “Fw WP: Disabled,” in the details above the numeric menu option when running the script.

Option 1 is greyed out due to this device no longer being supported.

Option 2-4 are selectable, but have [WP] beside of them and do not do anything when I type the number and press enter.

Option 5 to backup the firmware works.

What am I missing? The device is connected to network, and I have logged into guest and ran flashrom –wp-status to triple double check that FW WP is disabled.

Does the same thing with and without the battery disconnected.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Disabled WP via methods shown on MrChromebox website (WP screw + shell script methods) after booting into developer mode.

  2. Booted into device again, got to login as developer mode, ran ChromeOS Device Firmware Utility Script

  3. Loads, shows all device information, shows FW WP is disabled, but will not let me select option 2 to install UEFI firmware.

Expected Behavior

I guess it should have installed the UEFI firmware and prompted me for a backup?

TIA for any help. I’m at a loss. I have done this before, successfully, on a Google Pixelbook, but this one has me stumped and I did not see any other topics with this model and this specific issue.
