Greetings All!
I have had this chromebook 15 for years now, and it has never been anything else than a big browser. I stumbled on a video on YouTube, and after watching, and searched for others similar, I got directed to this site. I totally do not know tech, nor do I know anyone who can personally help me, so I am hoping to gain enough knowledge through this site that I can turn the chromebook into a regular laptop instead of throwing it out. Any help will be appreciated.
that’s a 2015 model device, and the first Chromebook released isn’t 15 years old yet, so unlikely.
everything necessary is in the docs here. Read them and ask specific questions if you have them.
I did not mean to imply that I had it for 15 years. I had it since 2016. I said chromebook 15, meaning 15.6 inch.
lol read before my morning caffeine
Well, thanks to the help I got here, I was able to flash the Chromebook. I did a UEFI full ROM flash, as dual-booting was not an option, since the device had already reached its end-of-life phase. I installed Linux Mint 21. Now I have another challenge to learn about Linux mint (that’s something I’d never heard of prior to coming here), so in reality, this is like a brand-new laptop. @Mr. Chromebox, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
I have a CB315-2H1-47WG. My sound never worked for years until this year when someone pointed me to a custom kernel but it also required Fedora linux as one of the packages used is not new enough in Mint. If you have a similar problem (it’s an AMD based unit) I can see if I can find the information again.
