Acer CA24V Chromebase

Hi All,

Our company has a number of 2016 Acer Chromebase CA24V models with HWID: BUDDY D25-A3-N5I-A9V

They all display “OS is missing or damaged / no bootable kernel found” and none of the recovery images i create from chromebook recovery utility works.

Instead of e-waste we would like to repurpose these machines.

If i reset with the recovery pinhole and crtl + d OS verification is turned off but booting from external media (USB/SD) has not been enabled. The restart does not boot into a setup wizard.

These have all been deprovisioned in google admin.

Questions;

How do i access the full Linux terminal to enable USB (ctrl + alt + T switches the device from OS verification OFF back to Chrome OS is missing)

Can anybody point me to a version of ChromeOS that works? Happy to install any version of ChromeOS or windows and the steps specific to this model?

How do i access the BIOS?

We have about 20 of these with the exact same issue so i fail to accept that its hardware failures.

Any help would be appreciated.

edit to add: normal recovery method with all devices ends with “an unexpected error has occurred” message

these devices are far past EOL, there’s no reason to try and run stock ChromeOS on them. Treat them as bricked, flash my custom firmware using a ch341a USB programmer, then install Linux or ChromeOS Flex (Flex will require using a USB/BT audio device, built-in speakers/mic/HP jack will not work)

ill attempt that thank you
